“I Feel Like My Face Has Suddenly Aged” – Where Do You Start With Aesthetic Treatments?

If you've started noticing changes in your face and aren't sure where to begin with aesthetic treatments, you're not alone. Here's how I approach it.

“I Feel Like My Face Has Suddenly Aged” – Where Do You Start With Aesthetic Treatments?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, when did that happen?

Maybe your face looks a little more tired than it used to. Your cheeks don’t seem quite as full, your jawline isn’t as defined, or you’ve started noticing lines that weren’t there before.

You know something has changed, but you can’t necessarily put your finger on what it is.

It’s something I hear from clients all the time, particularly those in their late 30s, 40s and beyond.

And quite often, the area they think needs treating isn’t actually where I’d recommend starting.

Ageing Isn’t Just About Wrinkles

When we think about facial ageing, we tend to think about lines and wrinkles. But there’s a lot more going on beneath the skin.

As we age, changes occur in our skin, facial fat, muscles and even the underlying bone structure.

We can lose volume in certain areas, experience changes in skin elasticity and notice that the natural contours of our face aren’t quite what they used to be.

And because everything in the face is connected, a change in one area can affect the appearance of another.

For example, a client might come to me concerned about their nasolabial folds (the lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth), but after assessing their face, I might feel that changes in the midface are contributing to their appearance.

That doesn’t automatically mean cheek filler is the answer. It means we need to understand what’s actually causing the concern before deciding how best to approach it.

Why I Always Look at the Whole Face

One of the things I’m particularly passionate about is facial balancing and full-face rejuvenation.

Rather than looking at one wrinkle, one fold or one feature in isolation, I assess the face as a whole.

I look at facial proportions, symmetry, volume distribution, skin quality and how the different areas work together.

Sometimes a small amount of carefully placed dermal filler can make a lovely difference. Sometimes an anti-wrinkle treatment might be more appropriate. Other times, I’d recommend focusing on improving skin quality before considering anything else.

And sometimes, my advice is that you don’t need the treatment you’ve come in asking for!

I’ve never believed that more product automatically means better results.

For me, it’s about using the right treatment, in the right place, for the right reason.

It’s Not Always About Filler

Something I think is really important to explain is that facial rejuvenation doesn’t always mean adding volume.

You can restore lost volume beautifully, but if the skin itself is lacking firmness, hydration or elasticity, you might still feel that something is missing.

That’s why I also offer treatments focused on improving skin quality, including microneedling, polynucleotides, skin boosters and PRP.

These treatments work differently from dermal fillers, and the most suitable option depends on your skin, concerns and treatment goals.

I often describe it as looking after the canvas as well as the structure underneath.

Healthy-looking skin and balanced facial proportions complement each other.

What If You Don’t Want to Look Like You’ve Had Anything Done?

Good! Because neither do I.

One of the biggest concerns I hear from new clients is that they don’t want to look different, overfilled or unnatural.

And I completely understand that.

My aim isn’t to give everybody the same cheeks, lips or jawline. It’s to respect your individual features and help you look like yourself.

Facial ageing is completely normal, and not every line needs correcting.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference to how refreshed and confident somebody feels.

So, Where Should You Start?

My advice would be to start with a consultation, not a treatment.

You don’t need to know whether you need filler, anti-wrinkle injections, polynucleotides or anything else before coming to see me.

That’s my job to help you work out.

We’ll talk about what you’ve noticed, what bothers you (if anything!), what you’d like to achieve and what treatments might realistically help.

I’ll also explain the limitations, risks and alternatives, because understanding what a treatment can’t do is just as important as understanding what it can.

And if I don’t think something is right for you, I’ll tell you.
